Couples Therapy Intensives

When communication breaks down and distance creeps in, a couples therapy intensive offers a focused space to reconnect.
In just a few days, you can uncover patterns, heal stuck places, and rebuild trust with guided support. It’s not about quick fixes—it’s about meaningful change
Focused. Connected.
Healing.
What is a Couples Therapy Intensive?
Couples intensives are a focused, short-term approach to relationship therapy designed to help couples make meaningful progress in a condensed period of time. Instead of meeting for weekly 50-minute sessions, couples participate in extended sessions over one or more full days. This allows space to slow down, look closely at what’s happening beneath the surface, and work through challenges without the stop-and-start feeling of traditional therapy.

This format is especially helpful when a relationship feels stuck, fragile, or in crisis. Couples intensives are often sought during moments of heightened stress—such as after infidelity, major life transitions, repeated communication breakdowns, or when trust has been damaged. Because the work happens over consecutive hours or days, couples don’t have to wait a week to continue a difficult conversation or regain momentum.

One of the biggest benefits of an intensive is the depth of work that becomes possible. With more time together, we can identify long-standing patterns, understand each partner’s experience, and practice new ways of communicating and responding in real time. Rather than simply talking about change, couples begin to experience it during the intensive itself.

Couples intensives also create a sense of containment and support that can feel stabilizing during tough conversations. Stepping away from daily distractions allows partners to fully focus on the relationship, reflect more clearly, and engage with intention. Many couples describe the experience as a reset—providing clarity, relief, and a renewed sense of direction.

Whether you are navigating a specific crisis or simply want to strengthen your relationship without a long wait, couples intensives offer an effective and hopeful path forward. They provide the time, structure, and guidance needed to move from feeling overwhelmed or disconnected toward greater understanding, repair, and connection.

Who
Benefits
Intensives are for couples who:
-Are ready for deeper healing and change without the start and stop of typical 50 minute sessions
-Have busy or complicated schedules or family obligations that can't commit to weekly therapy
-Are going through a big decision or life transition and don't want to wait months to work through it (changing careers, family planning, infertility issues, changing family dynamics)
-Going through a crisis such as infidelity or betrayal, grieving a traumatic event or feel stuck in high conflict
-Are trying to figure out next steps in their relationship- do we stay together? move in? Marriage? Are we headed to Divorce?
-Are looking for a jump start to reconnect in their relationship or feel stuck in their traditional weekly therapy

How
It Works
Couples intensives are thoughtfully structured to give you clarity, direction, and meaningful change in a short amount of time. We begin with a comprehensive relationship assessment designed to fully understand your dynamic. This includes time together as a couple, along with individual sessions for each partner, so everyone’s voice and experience is heard.

You’ll also complete the Gottman Relationship Checkup, a research-based assessment that highlights your strengths, challenges, and key areas of growth. From there, we come together for a feedback and goal-setting session where we make sense of the patterns showing up in your relationship and identify clear, shared goals for the intensive.

Once the groundwork is set, we move into one or two full days of focused therapeutic work. This is where we dive into interventions tailored to your specific needs—working on communication, repair, trust-building, and emotional connection in real time.

The intensive concludes with a follow-up plan and clear next steps to help you carry the work forward. You’ll leave with insight, practical tools, and a roadmap for continued growth—whether that includes ongoing therapy, additional support, or intentional practices you can use together at home.
When

Our Intensives take place over 2-3 days, starting on Fridays. The Intensive days start at 9am and take place for about 6 hours each day, including breaks and lunch. Intensives are offered virtually or in-person in Crofton, MD. It is recommended to attend in-person, if possible. Currently, for a 3 day Intensive, the final Intensive day must take place virtually.
